Can Liposuction Get Rid of My Cellulite?

Cellulite is easy to explain from a physical standpoint. It occurs when connective tissue tying skin to muscle causes pillowing of the fat layer between them. It’s less easy to explain why the effects vary so much between people. Women are disproportionately affected, given the way the female body tends to store fat.

Because fat is involved in the characteristic dimpled appearance of cellulite, could the fat-busting properties of liposuction be the answer? It’s possible that it may help some people, but not every liposuction technique gives the best results.

Choosing the liposuction specialists at Radiance Wellness MediSpa leads you to Smartlipo®, a laser-assisted lipolysis system from CynoSure® that can often level out the uneven terrain of cellulite.

The problems of subdermal fat

Anyone who’s put the time and effort into diet and exercise knows that there are places that simply cannot be tamed. The reason for this is the location of some fat deposits. There are two types of fat in your body.

Visceral fat lives under your muscles, so workouts can often tackle this type of fat in the same way control garments work. Tighten up the muscles, and they tighten up the fat.

Subdermal fat is another issue. Because it exists above the muscle layer, it can’t be controlled with toning. As you get older, your skin ages and becomes saggy and less elastic, more vulnerable to the outward pressure of this uncontrolled fat.

The connective tissue that anchors your skin to the muscle doesn’t break down the same way that skin does, so while your skin stretches outward when pressed by subdermal fat, it’s held back by these tissue anchors. In the same way that buttons in tufted sofa cushions create deliberate upholstery dimples, connective tissue creates unwanted cellulite dimples.

Smartlipo laser lipolysis

Conventional liposuction is something of a “brute force” technique. A hollow wand called a cannula physically disrupts fat cells, which are then sucked out by vacuum through the cannula.

Smartlipo has a similar construction, but it uses a very thin cannula with a fiber optic laser delivery system. The laser light energy gently warms fat tissue to the point that it liquifies for easy extraction. The tissue around the extracted fat tightens up and smooths out via coagulation.

Smartlipo and cellulite

While each patient’s response to treatment is unique, the gentle nature of Smartlipo liposuction works well to target tight areas, such as the fat that formed the outward dimpling experienced with cellulite.

With the fat that pushes beyond the length of connective tissue gone, your cellulite smooths, reducing its appearance while leaving you contemplating fashions you’ve ignored for years.

With four locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Radiance Wellness MediSpa is well-placed to help you with your cellulite problems. Contact the nearest office by phone or online to schedule a personal consultation today.
